More than 200 employees of Prison No. 6 in Soroca will be able to train in a sports complex inaugurated for them on Wednesday, August 9th.

The sports complex, consisting of a football hall, a volleyball hall and a training room, was placed in an older building on the penitentiary's territory, which was repaired from the budget funds of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions. According to the sources of the DPI, the construction and development works of the Complex would have directly involved, outside the working hours, the employees of the Soroca Penitentiary.

Oleg Pantea, the head of the Public Relations Department of the DPI, told CrimeMoldova that it is the first sports complex in Moldova for employees of a penitentiary. "Prisoners have sports halls in prisons. But we also have to think about the employees, they still have to rebuild their forces, and stay fit. It was possible in Soroca because there was a building that had been maintained since the Soviet era. The DPI organizes annually competitions between the employees of the 17 penitentiary institutions. The next competition will be organized in Soroca," the official told us.

More than 900 convicts are serving their sentence in the Penitentiary of Soroca. Previously, the detainees from this institution repeatedly demanded better conditions of detention and a convict addressed a request to the ECHR in this respect, which was already communicated to the Government of Chisinau (Zestrea versus Moldova).
